My moment for life. 4.3.12
I left my house in New Jersey and headed to NY at about 4:30-5ish in the morning. I had to catch 3 trains to Harlem. When I got there, the line was already long, because some people camped out. We were given orange temporary wristbands to purchase the cd with.We had to wait until 8am for Best Buy to open to purchase the cds, then receive another wristband which granted you to see Nicki at 6pm.
The lines moved pretty slow, and it was FREEZING. The security guards were nice, and they let you get out of line and get back in your same spot. All of the people I met were friendly and everyone was excited.
I purchased me CD's at about 9:30, then sat in Target for awhile to eat and warmup. At about 12:30, my friend and I decided it was time to get up and waste more time, since we didn't have to go back to Best Buy until 4pm. We shopped, spoke to other fans, etc.
At about 3:45, we started to head back up to Best Buy. They told us to go back downstairs, or in other stores in the shopping center, because they weren't ready for us, so My friend and I sat in a shoe store. At 3:55, we heard screaming and people running, so we ran back up to Best Buy, and they showed us were to form the line to wait for Nicki.
We sat in line and made friends, rapped old and new material, took pictures, sang for cameras, etc. We got excited because it was 6pm, but noticed the lines weren't moving. At about 6:45, we got tired and everyone's energy kind of died down, so they kept trying to get us hyped. They told us Nic was 20 minutes away, which was believable because we know shes always late, lol.
At about 7, we saw her Barbz come out. They were dressed in purple shirts, black leggins and long Blonde wigs. They were spray painted the same way she was on the album cover. They passed out promo posters, and posed for pictures with fans as well.
Out of no where, I heard loud screams and the line started to move. Nicki had arrived! People were jumping up trying to see over this big wall divider, and the line moved to bad that people were squished. We didnt care, though. We just wanted to see Onika!
The line moved pretty fast for me. It was surreal. I was one of the first 100 people to get inside. When I walked into the Best Buy, Roman Holiday was playing and I rapped/grunted/sang along. My friend was shaking and I tried to console her, but I was toooo excited. I met this guy named Nestor and his friend in the line and we talked while waiting to see Nicki.
As I got closer, I saw her talking to this girl E'mea, Who I met earlier in the other line. She looked soooooo into what E'mea was saying to her, and E'mea was pouring her heart out. It was so beautiful. I couldn't wait for my turn.
Once I saw Nestor and his friend go up, that was it. I was kind of blank. The security guard hugged me, and patted my back and told me it would be okay, just be myself, then lead me towards Nicki.
When I walked up to her and handed her my album booklet, I was so nervous. She was smiling at me so hard. She said "Hi, Beautiful! How are you?" I told her I was nervous, but I asked could I sing her a song. I had been practicing in line all day, even though I'm very confident in my singing abilities. She glanced over at someone quickly and then nodded her head yes, then folded her hands and looked me in my eyes. I almost lost it. I started to sing the bridge to 'Young Forever', a song off of the new album. I didn't have much time, and the security guard was nudging me, so I wrapped it up. She told me I sound beautiful, and that I was amazing. She quickly signed my album booklet, Thanked me for the support, and told me to have a nice evening.
I was in shock. I walked out of Best Buy the happiest I've ever been. When I got outside, someone asked me what happened and I told them. They asked what she had on and I honestly couldn't remember. All I could remember were her eyes looking into mine while I sang to her. I was focused on her face. All I saw was her face and her Roman necklace. I don't even remember looking at Safaree[ whom I LOVEEE] It was so surreal.
She's SO humble. She really takes the time to recognize each fan for who they are. She encourages us all to be better and to do better. It kind of upsets me that people do actually take the time out to see what shes about, and they prejudge her because of what they think or what they've heard. They never see that she is always motivating her Barbz to stay in school, not to fall victim of being uneducated or a teenage mom, etc. They don't see how humble and down to earth she is. They see crazy hair colors, wild costumes, a big ass and raunchy lyrics.
BUT ANYWAY. The way back home was so tiring, but I made it. Once I got back to Newark Penn Station and parted ways with my friend, I waited for my bus home. It was about 10:20 then. As I sat waiting for my bus, I began to think of all that happened, and I started to cry a bit. I was just overwhelmed with emotion.
I really enjoyed myself. I love her now more than I ever did. From 07 to beyond !
